Endodontics - Root Canal Treatments

Get Seen Now

People tend to become anxious when their dentist confirms that endodontic treatment, otherwise known as a root canal, is recommended. The term ‘root canal’ has become synonymous with extended pain, but the reality is that modern dental technologies have made this procedure both comfortable and stress-free for patients.

Root canal treatments are recommended when the pulp of one or more teeth becomes damaged due to inflammation and disease. If you experience symptoms like the following, endodontic therapy may be necessary:

  • Pain when chewing or biting down
  • Sensitivity to hot and cold consumables
  • Swollen gum tissue
  • Facial swelling

How are root canals performed?

Root canal treatment typically can be completed in single or multiple visits. After you are completely relaxed and the treatment area has been numbed, your dentist will isolate the tooth and clear out any infected matter using biocompatible instruments to keep the area free of infection and reduce the risk of tooth fracture. After the root canals are carefully shaped, the tooth will be disinfected and the canals filled with a material called guttapercha, which preserves tooth structure and health after treatment. Your dentist may also recommend protecting the tooth after with a restoration like an onlay as they often tend to be weak

You may experience minor discomfort after the procedure concludes and the numbing wears off, but it is only temporary and can be treated with routine pain medication.

Our dental clinic provides root canal treatment, with more complex cases being referred to our in house endodontic expert. Patients who experience anxiety at the prospect of endodontic work will be offered a choice of dental sedation to help them relax during the procedure.

Endodontic treatment can restore you to fulldental health and let you enjoy eating, drinking, and smiling once more. For more information or to schedule a consultation, contact us today.
